I have thoroughly enjoyed everything about the School Direct course with OIE. The infectious enthusiasm displayed by all practitioners who delivered training days on behalf of OIE provided me and my fellow trainees with an attitude that we can go out and make a difference in our placement schools. In the placement schools we have been treated like a member of the teaching staff, meaning that we were at ease and able to make the most of our time there. A particular highlight of mine was leading the upper key stage 2 Christmas performance at the end of my first teaching practice. An experience that initially was totally out of my comfort zone but ultimately one that I will remember for a long time!
The life of a teacher definitely isn’t an easy one but it is an extremely rewarding career, particularly when you have the support that I have received not only from staff in school, but the staff at OIE has allowed me to grow in confidence and flourish throughout my trainee year. Also, knowing that someone is at the other end of the phone or an e-mail to answer any queries has also been helpful, especially throughout the testing periods of the course. As previously mentioned, the EPS sessions provided by OIE have been a particular highlight, as they have been delivered by passionate individuals and have always left me wanting to go back into school and try and implement something new. All in all, the training provided throughout the course has been outstanding and I would definitely recommend them to anyone interested in taking the first steps to a teaching career.
As part of the commitments of OIE, we were provided with two sessions with the primary focus on ‘Getting the Job.’ These sessions provided us with an insight into the application process from an Executive Principal’s point of view and allowed us to critique our own opening to a cover letter. The information provided formed the basis of my own successful application to a teaching post within the Outwood Grange Academies Trust. Aside from the job specific session, the School Direct training allowed me to gain an understanding into everything required to be a teacher whilst being under the support of passionate and enthusiastic practitioners.
After spending time at Outwood Primary Academy Kirkhamgate during my training I can’t wait to fully immerse myself within the ethos of the trust and carry on making the difference to children on a daily basis. Although the thought of being fully responsible for my own class is daunting, it is a challenge that I can’t wait to get started with, especially as I know that I will have the continued support of everyone at OIE.
