This programme is suitable for all Secondary MFL teachers.
Please see the training sessions below.
Getting it ‘write’ for the new GCSE 1-9
The new writing assessment requires students to write spontaneously without support. Students need to write less but be more accurate and specific in the content.
This session will look at how to prepare students for all writing tasks at Foundation and Higher. How to overcome memory issues and focus on what counts.
Tackling the new speaking exam
The new speaking tasks are designed to test students’ ability to speak more spontaneously and understand questions, whilst still aiming for complex language.
This session will share ideas to develop students’ skills in the art of role play and photo card, and will look at what and how to prepare for the conversation. We will also share ideas to develop spontaneity in speaking from KS3 into KS4.
The world belongs to those who read’ – ‘Teach’ them how2!
Reading is a skill for life BUT do we always ensure we teach students how to read? This session will focus on how to develop students’ ability to read for detail and tackle translation tasks.
We will look at different types of reading question for the new GCSE and share tips to make it as engaging as possible from KS3 into KS4.
Developing a ‘real’ climate for language learning.
Many of our students struggle to see the purpose of learning a language beyond getting a ‘GCSE’ and therefore fail to ‘buy-in’ to the independent learning required to succeed at the highest grades in MFL.
This session will look at ways of giving students access to more authentic language use experiences. We will show you how to promote international links, particularly through eTwinning, and share advice and ideas for trips.
There is no charge to OGAT staff and NQTs from any school or academy.
For anyone else, the cost will be £15 (excl. VAT) per session.
