Since April 2012, Jo has been working across the Outwood Grange Family of Schools as Director of English; an exciting and varied role which enables her to support and guide the excellent work of our English departments, so that all students fulfil their true potential. Much of Jo’s time is spent in the classroom, team teaching with colleagues, sharing best practice and demonstrating how to address particular aspects of the English curriculum and assessment with success. Her work involves reviewing the current issues facing English departments and schools nationally, developing the quality of data on English performance, planning focused teaching and interventions for students, and providing bespoke training for departments and 1-2-1 tutors. Jo is an Examiner for WJEC GCSE English/Language, and much of the examination work feeds into the training and CPD carried out with English departments and in the classroom with students.
Part of Jo’s remit is to provide strategic direction for Literacy across the Outwood Family of Schools in order to improve students’ written accuracy and promote reading from year 7. She is absolutely passionate about the power of literacy to open doors for young people and maximise their opportunities within and beyond school.
