Top tips

Personal statement

Your personal statement is your opportunity to showcase your passion and enthusiasm for wanting to become a teacher. You will also need to include any relevant experience in educational settings. We believe teachers represent their subject; you must outline your knowledge of your chosen subject specialism or phase.

References

Two references are required to apply for teacher training; you will not be able to submit your application until both references are complete, therefore allow plenty of time for this process.

Interviews

The interview process is a time for discussion about our School Direct programme and to evaluate your potential to become an excellent trainee teacher with the Outwood Institute of Education.

It is essential you bring the following documents on the day:

  • one form of photo I.D;
  • the original certificates of your degree (where available) and GCSEs in English, maths & science;
  • the attached reference, completed by the school where you have the most recent and relevant experience.

Experience in a school

You will need to have spent a minimum of three days in a school environment. The Outwood Institute of Education can organise these placements for you as part of the application process. Please contact us to arrange this.

(Please note you do not have to have this experience at the time of submitting your application but this does have to be completed before you start the programme)
