Teacher of History
Permanent Full Time Salary: MPS/UPS
Outwood Academy Shafton
Required for September 2017
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed teacher to join our strong and supportive department.
"The whole point of schools is that children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal."
Outwood Academy Shafton is an 11-16 academy with 300 places in each year group. The predecessor school formally converted to an Outwood Academy in spring 2015. The academy has undergone a massive transformation over the last two years since joining Outwood Grange Academies Trust, nationally recognised as the highest performing multi-academy trust in the country. Our mission is to place "Students First" in everything that we do. We are absolutely obsessive about standards, transforming the lives of our young people; empowering them to realise their ambitions, pursue their chosen future path and to make valuable contributions to society.
In just two years, Outwood Academy Shafton has added 25% to the number of students leaving school with 5A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Maths. This year, 67% of our students left with an A*-C grade in Maths and 64% achieved the same accolade in English, both of these measures being above the respective national average. In terms of Progress 8, we are one of the top performing schools in the Barnsley Local Authority with students achieving, on average, a quarter of a grade higher than expected right across the curriculum. Over the course of the last two years, the number of top A* and A grades achieved by our students has almost trebled.
Outwood Academy Shafton is a wonderful place to work. Everyone associated with the Academy recognises the real buzz of excitement and sense of togetherness. Although the demands and expectations are very high, staff enjoy coming to work, know that they are making a real difference to our young people and fully understand and support our vision of ‘Students first’. We offer a first-class induction programme with on-going, personalised support for all new colleagues. Our impressive learning environment sets a fantastic backdrop to the high quality teaching and learning taking place. We pride ourselves on the behaviour of our students, both in lessons and around the site. Critically, the excellent focus and engagement of our students allows teachers to teach and students to succeed.
The successful candidate we are seeking to appoint will be an enthusiastic and committed teacher to join our strong and supportive department.
If you join Outwood Academy Shafton, you will be joining the Outwood Grange Family of Schools and will therefore enjoy so many opportunities, whether you wish to stay in one school or work across the Family of Schools. When you are ready to move up, you will not need to move on. All of our Academies have one common goal: to give children, irrespective of ability or circumstances, the chance to succeed. We’re passionate about recognising the potential of both children and staff, and we do whatever it takes to transform futures.
