Your Training Year

During your training year, you will complete two placements as your school-based training. Your first placement will take place from September to December and your second placement will take place from January to June.

A typical training week will be as follows:

  • Monday: Education and Professional Studies (EPS) session at the OIE.
  • Tuesday – Thursday: School-based training.
  • Friday: Subject Knowledge and Master’s sessions at SHU.

On completion of this course, you will receive a PGCE with QTS and 60 Master’s credits.

If you are a Primary or Primary PE trainee, you will complete a 6 week assessed block of teaching in the autumn term and an 8 week assessed block of teaching in the summer term.

There is a compulsory 3 week PE Summer School for Primary PE trainees; this takes place in August prior to starting the course.
