Vision & Values

Outwood Institute of Education is an integral part of a large, successful multi-academy Trust, Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT), who have 32 academies in the North of England.

We relish the opportunity to be part of the much needed regeneration of the areas we work in. We are serious about the part we have to play in regenerating the areas we serve by placing an outstanding school at the heart of the community.

To do this, we ensure that:

  • students are always at the forefront of what we do, so we can help them to reach their potential

  • that all our staff strive to be experts in our respective fields

  • together, with the wider Outwood Family, we are obsessive about attaining the highest standards, thereby enhancing children’s life-chances.

Quite simply, we want to be known for placing:

Students first: raising standards and transforming lives
— Martyn Oliver, CEO, Outwood Grange Academies Trust

The Outwood Institute of Education supports the work of the trust through providing high quality professional development for staff from initial teacher training (ITT) through to CEO training. We are a collaboration of five teaching schools, with Outwood Grange Academy, Wakefield being one of the first designated nationally.

Our teaching schools work in partnership with four higher education institutions to deliver school-led initial teacher training across the North of England:

  • Durham University

  • Leeds Beckett University

  • Sheffield Hallam University

  • University of York

The OIE also supports a network of schools beyond the trust; we are part of a large alliance of over 70 members and our ITT students benefit from these wider relationships to ensure a rich and varied experience during their training year.

We share the same vision and values as the trust; it is our job to ensure teachers have the skills and knowledge to deliver these.  We believe that initial teacher education is the key to improving standards in education and raising life chances of young people in the North of England. Teachers have the power to change lives and regenerate communities; our programme allows future teachers to work alongside innovative, ambitious and student-focused teachers who are passionate about raising standards and transforming lives.
