What is an English Hub Phonics Showcase Event?

The DfE support all English Hubs to offer funded showcase events to help support your school to improve standards in reading.

Throughout the half day event, you will be able to observe phonics teaching and find out how the hub choose and use phonics resources effectively. Staff at the hub will share how they are developing a reading for pleasure culture whilst developing the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics.

You will also be invited to write an action plan to apply for hub funding and free support for your school. Eligible schools can apply for up to £6,000 of funding.

Showcase Agenda

Each showcase event starts with an introductory presentation by the academy’s principal explaining key leadership decisions that have enabled reading success in the academy and how this is being shared across the trust. This will be followed by a presentation from the English Hub team, a learning walk of the academy exploring the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics and the embedding of a love of reading and support in creating an action plan to apply for hub funding and free support for your school.

Showcases start at 9.00am and finish at midday. There are a limited number of places at each event and attendees can claim up to £250 per school for travel and cover costs. Schools can send a maximum of 2 delegates.

Who Should Attend?

This event is suitable for head teachers/principals/academy/school senior leaders and MAT leaders. We suggest they attend with their Reception/Key Stage 1 teachers.
