Teaching Internship Programme 2026
The Outwood Institute of Education is delighted to offer the Department for Education’s flagship Teaching Internship programme for 2026.
Our three week programme offers interns a fully immersive experience in a placement school, providing valuable first-hand exposure to the teaching profession. Adopting an incremental and tailored approach, designed to align with each intern's individual skills and confidence, interns will work under the guidance of a dedicated mentor, gaining practical experience that spans:
Observation of experienced classroom practitioners.
Supported engagement in the classroom, progressing from providing in-classroom support to leading small group work and intensive 1:1 support.
Joint planning and delivery of lessons.
Exposure to wider school roles within the trust, including pastoral teams and supernumerary subject specialists.
Insight into teachers' work beyond the classroom, encompassing after-school enrichment activities, in-school events and off-site educational trips.
The programme includes formal training as well as a subject-specific session delivered by an experienced specialist. The programme concludes with a full day face-to-face celebration event, including inputs from a DfE Explore Teaching Adviser and the National Institute of Teaching who will share more information about their ITT programme.
So, if you are a second, third or fourth year undergraduate or Master’s student and interested in exploring Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Languages (French, Spanish and German) or Design Technology in a secondary school, then the Teaching Internship programme could be for you.
Placements will take place from Monday 22 June to Friday 10 July 2026 in one of our Outwood secondary academies across Yorkshire & Humber, Tees Valley, Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire and Lancashire. Not only will you gain valuable experience and acquire new skills, interns also receive payment of £1,365 (£455 per week) on completion of the full three week internship.
